I already ordered a cool blue camo lizardskin 1.8mm.

    He'll give it a try!

The bat doesn't have the larger cone shape at the knob that bbcor's have. What is it's purpose and should I buy one for it before I add the new lizardskin?

Does it help with hand sting? lol.

    bat taper ?

personal preference - but (for majority)!probably better to have a taper near the knob for the heavier (-3) bats

( probably a reason majority of BBCOR bats have a taper )

( and almost all wood bats have a taper - so theoretically might be smoother transition to wood )

    benefits of taper:

    > taper adds weight near knob

    > increased diameter near knob with a taper can increase control / can assist to reduce unwanted movement ('bat flop', 'wrist flop')

end effect : bat with a taper can swing a tad lighter / more balanced and with more control

problem : where to find a taper (mild taper that can be installed under a grip)

not a fan of knob cuff which is external ... too short, not gradual ...

grip n rip lite ... eh ... hard plastic, too short, not gradual enough

easton offered a nice taper years ago (packaged with a grip) - but no longer produced

I doubt it - but it is possible it does help a (very) small amount to help dampen vibration

would be a better question for Dr Russell ... or Dr Nathan ...

    Okay, thanks Tom.

Unfortunately, this 30/27 Rawlings is more like 28.5 oz. I thought it felt heavy.

that's ok ... might then be a good practice bat ... (and maybe some of the extra weight is located near the handle ?) ...

we had a 30/27 Typhoon that swung like an iron pole ... used it to build up strength

    30/27 S4 weighed 27 oz

The balance point is about 11 1/4" from the end of the barrel. It feels like a slight end load.

Yep, maybe a good practice bat. We'll see.

I built up a taper with bike handlebar tape under the lizardskin. It feels pretty good. I used to alter the shape of my tennis grips.

    nice !

did you use genuine Cinelli bar tape to form the taper ?

if so you can become a member of the Claudio Chiapucci fan club !
